Now Playing Tracks

I had been back from Hong Kong for over a week now and finally spent my Friday night editing this video, partly because I had been extremely busy between traveling to different shoot, filming and catching up on editing deadlines.

In the meantime, I was debating if I should edit this at all. Most of the footages were fairly personal to me, I filmed it at my grand parents house, who help my parents to raise me up as an infant; the other location was my other grand parents place which I spent pretty much all of the festive time during my childhood. Many things changed since I moved to the US, and this was the first time I was to capture these memories as a filmmaker.

Additional footage that I shot weren’t at all great, they were rather generic montage of a very tiny fragment of the city which I had grown so familiar to, but now so distanced. It was a very busy trip coming back for the first time after six years, so I rarely have time to film on the street, I mostly shot in transit from one dinner meeting to another, three times a day, to reunited with families and friends. There wasn’t even any night footage, which I was most ashamed of, but I prioritized my time in Hong Kong to spend with my families rather than filming.

Therefore, as a result, this is more or less a b-roll doc montage on how the city is today and a very personal collage of memories, but more important for me to accept the new normal.
